Car Maintenance
One of the things of which many of my customers are unaware is that like all things mechanical, slot cars need maintenance, repair and sometimes replacement.  Keeping your car's running gear clean & oiled and "staying in the groove" will minimize more expensive repairs.

For example:
1.  Steel chassised cars that crash, often need to be straightened to regain their handling characteristics. After straightening several times they are to weak so they must be replaced.
2.  Motors are also a good example. Less expensive motors last a much shorter time, in general, than more expensive ones. Also with the more expensive motors they can be reconditioned/rebuilt while the less expensive motors are throw away.
3.  Tires are definitely a "consumable" item. Depending on the tire and car combination, they may last from just hours to weeks.
4.  Gears may also need to be changed. While they do not wear out very fast IF THEY ARE CORRECTLY SET UP, they may need to be changed as you go to different tracks for best performance.
5.  Pick-up braid should be kept clean for best power transfer to the motor and it also wears out  requiring replacement.
